During the 2010 Louisiana Legislative session our leaders took a $24-billion budget proposed by the governor and added another $2-billion before they were finished. In the last days of the session they added $30-million of their own pet projects that included cattle fencing and walking trails while tapping into the rainy-day fund and setting the stage for further cuts in higher education and healthcare. Pet projects help legislators, not the people of Louisiana.

Some in Louisiana would like to answer our budget problems by raising taxes. Duke believes that you don’t answer budget problems by giving our legislature more money. You answer them the same way each of us handle these issues within our own households and our own businesses. You cut back!

For more than a decade, Duke Lowrie and his wife Kara have run a successful business. Duke knows what it means to plan and live within a budget. He also understands how to prioritize and make the tough decisions that will make Louisiana better for all of its citizens. When elected, Duke Lowrie will work to reduce the cost of government, not increase the cost of being a resident! Duke knows it is the spending that is the problem!

Michael “Duke” Lowrie announces candidacy for Louisiana State Representative 8th District Race!

Thursday, February 24, 2011, Michael “Duke” Lowrie announces his candidacy for the Louisiana State Representative 8th District race in front of friends and supporters at the Bossier Civic Center.

Lowrie is a life-long conservative running as a Republican.

Michael “Duke” Lowrie is proud to have been born, reared, and educated in Bossier Parish. For 20 years he served the people of Bossier as a firefighter and paramedic earning citations for saving lives. For over a decade, he and his wife Kara built their own successful business, Acadiana Mortgage. Together with their three children, Sydni, Alexis, and Alexander, they regularly attend Cypress Baptist Church. Throughout his life Duke has been an active member in numerous civic, business, and service organizations. Now that Duke has retired from the Fire Department, he seeks to serve the citizens in a new capacity.

Key issues in the Lowrie campaign involve concerns over spending in the legislature. Lowrie believes that cutting back should not mean that the legislature spends our money and the people of Louisiana are forced to cut back. He also believes that balancing the budget does not mean destroying higher education. Lowrie also understands what true economic development really means. Too often, in this state, individual businesses have been given tax breaks or incentives only to come to this state and become a burden. Duke believes that real economic development should start with the businesses that were here first. Finally, Duke believes that there is more to being a conservative than just an “R” next to a name. As a life long conservative, Duke believes in less government and more God. He believes in the sanctity of life.
